He has worked with such esteemed directors as Brian DePalma, John Huston, and Woody Allen. His autobiography is, What's It All About? Caine stars in the film The Quiet American based on the Graham Green murder mystery centered on a love triangle set during the French Indochina War in Vietnam around 1952.
